Trauma Intervention for Children & Families (CFTSI)

Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) is a brief, evidence-based early intervention designed to help children and caregivers after a recent traumatic or stressful event. CFTSI strengthens communication and support between children and caregivers while helping reduce traumatic stress symptoms and build coping skills during the early stages of recovery.

Is CFTSI Right for Your Child?

CFTSI is a brief, evidence-based early intervention for children and adolescents ages 7–18 who have recently experienced or disclosed a traumatic or distressing event. This approach is most effective when started soon after the trauma or disclosure, typically within 30–45 days. CFTSI may help children experiencing:

  • Sudden loss or grief
  • Accidents or medical trauma
  • Exposure to violence or abuse
  • Recent disclosure of physical or sexual abuse
  • Community or school-based traumatic events
  • Separation from a caregiver
  • Witnessing frightening or overwhelming experiences
  • Changes in sleep, mood, or behavior after a stressful event
  • Increased anxiety, clinginess, irritability, or emotional distress following trauma

With early support, children and caregivers can feel more understood, supported, and equipped to navigate the impact of trauma together. See below to learn more about the clinicians who provide CFTSI services.
