Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)

Strengthening Connection Through Play

Children often express their deepest needs and feelings through play. As parents, it can sometimes be hard to understand those moments—or how to use play to build stronger connections. That's where our Child-Parent Relationship support program comes in.

Our clinicians incorporate the principles of Child Parent Relationship Training (CPRT), a play-based, research-informed approach that helps parents strengthen their relationship with their child. We use core elements of this model in our parent work to provide families with practical tools they can begin using right away.

What Parents Learn

Through guided sessions, you'll gain skills that help you:

  • Create special playtimes to deepen your bond with your child
  • Recognize and respond to your child's emotional needs more effectively
  • Support your child's confidence, self-control, and problem-solving abilities
  • Reduce power struggles and challenging behaviors by fostering connection

Why This Matters

When parents learn to connect through play, children often feel more secure, understood, and capable. Parents frequently notice:

  • Improved communication with their child
  • More enjoyable family time
  • Less stress around discipline and daily struggles
  • Stronger emotional resilience in their child

How It Fits with Play Therapy

This therapy provides children with a safe space to work through challenges with a trained therapist. Our parent-child relationship support builds on that work by helping parents understand and respond to what their child is practicing in therapy. Together, these approaches help both parent and child grow in confidence and connection.

What to Expect

  • Format: Sessions are offered in either small group or individual formats, depending on your family's needs.
  • During: Parents learn step-by-step skills to use in short, structured playtimes.
  • Program: You'll receive support and reflection on your experiences, helping you grow more confident over time.
  • Duration: Programs typically run for eight to ten weeks, giving parents time to learn, practice, and reflect.

Parents often find that even small changes in how they structure play or respond to their child's needs can transform improvements in their relationship.
