Individual Therapy for Parents
Supporting Families from the Start
Becoming a parent is often imagined as a time of joy, love, and new beginnings. But for many, the transition into parenthood can be overwhelming. The reality often arrives quickly, leaving little time to process the fears, anxieties, and changes that come with caring for a new life.
At Mossman Play Therapy Center, we understand that parenting can feel both beautiful and incredibly challenging. We're here to walk alongside families by offering support, guidance, and care when it's needed most.
Why Support Matters
The emotional well-being of children is closely tied to the well-being of their parents and caregivers.
As the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University states:
"The emotional well-being of young children is directly tied to the functioning of their caregivers and the families in which they live... When relationships are reliably responsive and supportive, they can actually buffer young children from the adverse effects of other stressors. Therefore, reducing the stressors affecting children requires addressing the stressors in their families."
When parents feel supported, children thrive. By reducing stress and uncertainty we can help build stronger, more connected families and lay the foundation for resilient, emotionally healthy children.
What Is Child/Parent Mental Health?
Child/Parent Mental Health is about more than just treating problems it's about nurturing relationships, promoting healthy development, and supporting families right from the start.
Our parent support approach is grounded in attachment theory and focused on strengthening the parent-child relationship by helping families:
- Learn ways to support your child through their developmental years
- Recognize the roles family, culture, and community play in child rearing
- Build a strong, trusting relationship between parent and child
- Understand developmental norms
- Strengthen the bond between caregiver and child
- Engage in reflective practice to build self-awareness
- Learn strategies to help set safe and secure boundaries to help children feel safe and loved
- Help parents learn how their past experiences have shaped and modeled their ideas and views of parenting
